A taste of the good life on the Athenian Riviera
It’s the only capital city in Europe with its own stretch of fab beach resorts just a tram ride from the city centre.
I’ve visited Athens before, but on previous trips I’ve been lured by the iconic sights of the city centre. This time however I decided to give the city centre a miss and head, instead, for the Athenian Riviera.
For years, well-off Athenians — yes, there still are some — have favoured the resorts along the shores of the Attica for a relaxing break from city life.
And, as I discovered, some of those resorts can offer Blue Flag beaches, outstanding value for money and some great places to stay. They’re also easy to get to.
