Katie Wood is an award-winning travel journalist and author with 44 years of experience, 39 published guidebooks, and travel in more than 140 countries. Her work has appeared in The Sunday Times, The Times, The Guardian, The Telegraph, Daily Mail, Wall Street Journal, The Scotsman, and The Herald.
Katie now focuses on selected writing, editing and consulting projects from her base in Scotland.

Books and publishing
Katie is the author of 39 travel guidebooks, including the long-running Europe by Train (Penguin).
Her book ‘The Good Tourist’, published in 1992, was the first groundbreaking book to promote sustainable ‘green’ tourism – long before it became so popular and a selling-point. The book was awarded the Sir Peter Kent prize for ‘Best Conservation Book of the Year’ and as a result many major companies, such as British Airways’, and Tourist Organisations, like the Caribbean Tourism Organisation, The European Community (EU), Visit Britain, and the Scottish Tourist Board contracted her as a Consultant to bring an environmental dimension to their operations.
Broadcast & media history
Past broadcast work has included weekly slots as the Travel Expert on BBC Radio’s ‘Travel Time’ programme; UK-wide ITV’s ‘Wish You Were Here’, and her very own baby on Scottish Television (part of ITV) called ‘Scottish Passport’ which filmed around the world – with her presenting and editing – looking at travel with a Scottish angle ie best value destinations from Scotland with direct flights, and those places with an important significance to the Scots, like Nova Scotia, California, many parts of New Zealand and Australia, and much more.
